TMJ/TMD/Nightguards/Injectables

If you have pain or discomfort in your jaw, mouth, or neck, it could be a sign of temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ/TMD. Jaw pain can be anything from simply pesty to debilitating. Symptoms that you may be experiencing TMJ/TMD are general jaw pain, a lack of your full range of motion when opening and closing your mouth, and pain when you press against the areas around your jaw. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, Eagle Dental has solutions to identify the cause and treat your TMD.

What Causes Jaw Pain and TMJ/TMD?

Halitosis can be a symptom of several underlying oral health problems. Sometimes it comes down to improving your daily oral hygiene habits, brushing and flossing twice a day, but we will provide an examination for other potential causes. It could be a sign of gum disease from a buildup of plaque on the teeth and gums, a result of tonsil stones that develop from food particle deposits in your tonsils, or a sign of infection in the nose, throat, or lungs. During your visit with us, we’ll learn about your oral health history and habits to develop a plan that attacks bad breath at its source.

Nightguards

Depending on the severity and cause of your TMJ/TMD, we may offer a nightguard to treat your jaw pain. Dental nightguards are custom fitted dental appliances that are worn over or between the teeth to provide a thin barrier between them. They’re most effective for treating people who experience TMJ/TMD through clenching or grinding their teeth while they sleep. Use of a nightguard will relieve stress on the jaw joint and improve one’s bite over time, allowing the jaw to return to a comfortable position.

How can I prevent halitosis?

In recent years, injectables have become a well-tested, effective treatment for sufferers of intense TMJ/TMD and jaw pain. When injected into the muscles that control jaw movement, Injectables can reduce the frequency and intensity of muscle contractions that contribute to TMJ/TMD.

The treatment is simple and typically takes no more than half an hour to administer. It’s a useful treatment for people who have not found other solutions effective or people with severe symptoms of TMJ/TMD.
